What Does an Adaptive PE Session Look Like?

March 15, 2019

Adaptive PE Class Outline

Warm Up:

Students will spend the first part of class working on full body movements that will enhance their motor planning skills, flexibility, and core body temperature.

Staple Exercises:

After warming up, students will move into working on full body strength exercises such as push-ups, sit ups, body weight squats, and plyometric that will enhance strength, motor control, and endurance.  Exercises are modified to encompass all skill levels.

Sport skills:

Depending on the game selection for that PE session, the students will work on a skill that relates to that game.  For example, if basketball is the game the students will work on step by step process to dripping, shooting, and playing defense.  Once students are able to complete these tasks in a one on one setting they will practice the skills with their peers.

Sports game:

Sportsmanship, fair play, and healthy competition are a big emphasis when team sports and games are played.  As students’ progress throughout the semester more time will be spent on the sport and game portion.  Competiveness of the game will depend on how the students respond to team and group play each day.

*Lesson plans are always adapted to physical and social skill level of the group, individual students with additional needs within the group are accommodated to their skill level as well.
